Miguel Oliveira believes he will be “prepared for Sunday’s race” at the Malaysian Moto2 Grand Prix, after being seventh fastest in free practice today.
The Portuguese KTM experienced some difficulties due to the rain that fell intermittently on the Sepang circuit, ending the day with a record of 2.07.551 minutes, 0.623 seconds of the fastest, Spaniard Alex Márquez in a Kalex.
“This first day was a good day, although it was a bit strange because of the weather conditions. In the end, I managed to do five consecutive fast laps with the asphalt in acceptable conditions,” explained the Almada rider, who in the first of two sessions day had been the ninth fastest.
According to Miguel Oliveira, this session “is not enough to make a complete analysis” of the point where it is “in relation to the competition” and, despite showing that the team is “competitive”, still does not leave it fully satisfied
“We still lack something to be fully prepared for Sunday, but that is what we will look for in Qualifying.” The level of grip was also not ideal. I felt good on the bike and hope to at least get a good time in the third session of free practice to set the pitch to use, but I’m sure we’re prepared to make a good qualification, “he concluded.
The KTM racer arrives at this 18th and penultimate round of the Moto2 season with 36 points behind the leader of the championship, the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Kalex), who was today the fourth fastest, 0.445 seconds ahead of Portuguese.
Miguel Oliveira has to recover at least 12 points to the Italian to be able to postpone the decision to award the title for the last race on November 18 in Valencia, Spain.
