Yesterday, the Tivoli BBVA Theatre welcomed the talented Mimi Froes, who performed “Ao Vivo e a Riscos” in a fantastic evening of musicality, poetry and excellent guests.

Mimi, accompanied by her quartet and two guests, Rui Veloso and Miguel Marôco, gave her many fans, friends and family an unforgettable evening, perhaps one of the best concerts in recent times.

The concert had many extraordinary moments, among which we highlight “Lembra-me despiração” and “O navio dela”, a song by Manel Cruz that, with a more jazzy feel, gained a different life in Mimi’s voice. But of course, “Cores da estação” and “Desenhos a giz” in duet with Miguel Marôco and “A veia do poeta” and “Vai ruir” with Rui Veloso were unforgettable moments in yesterday’s concert.

Mimi Froes is a Portuguese singer and songwriter who has stood out in the music scene for the quality of her compositions, lyrics, and soft voice that moves between pop, jazz, and elements of Portuguese music with complex harmonies.

Mimi Froes began to gain recognition with her EPs, namely E a Cantar (2021). Her song “Declarações de Meia Noite” was nominated for a Golden Globe, which boosted the release of her first album, Contornos (2023). This album, as she describes it, explores themes such as control, loss, and reaction to this loss, showing a more defined and assertive artistic personality.

Her musical references include great names such as Stevie Wonder, the brothers Luísa and Salvador Sobral, Manel Cruz, Samuel Úria, and Brazilian artists such as Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo, and the Caymmi family. This diversity of influences contributes to her unique sound, which she describes as pop with complex harmonies, distancing herself from more restricted labels such as fado, although she recognises its beauty.
