There’s a clear and well-defined thread running through the path that guitarists Frankie Chavez and Peixe have been following since 2019, through their Miramar project, painting stories without resorting to words, relying solely on the evocative power of melodies.
If their self-titled debut album, released in 2019, can be seen as a travelogue on a “road traveled contemplatively” (Pedro Tenreiro, 2019), and if we see the second, Miramar II (2022), as a map of a space that extends from the previous one, like “a laboratory of places, a kind of journey around a room, and its scenic unfolding a virtue of its tension” (Daniel Jonas, 2022), the new album, Miramar III, to be released on October 3rd, is assumed to be a memoir of a different nature.
In Miramar III, memories effectively persist in the same space that is now inhabited. There are visitors, there is noise, there are neighbours, there is interference, … there are possible aftermaths – as is the case with the song “I’m Leaving – Chap. II,” which follows “I’m Leaving,” included on the group’s first album.
Thus, in Miramar III, Frankie Chavez and Peixe approach memories from new angles, attempting to return to the time and space where they were happy, in the hope that this place has changed, as it inevitably has for them.
Miramar III will thus be the third volume of a story told by two people, where departures and returns are part of an endless journey that simulates itself in time.
To mark the release of Miramar III, the group will perform two concerts to present this new album at two major venues in the country: the new Casa Capitão in Lisbon on October 21, and Casa da Música (Sala 2) in Porto on October 22.
Upcoming shows:
October 21 – Casa do Capitão (Lisbon)
October 22 – Casa da Música – Sala II (Porto)
November 28 – Black Box at Central do Caldeirão (Torres Novas)
