The duo formed by Afonso Branco and André Ivo debuted with “Ser Português” and already has new things in mind soon.
They made themselves known with roots uncovered in the open, in a deconstruction of old notions and new trends that sell us what “Being Portuguese” is, after all. And they appeared without prior notice or ceremony, with the irreverence typical of age — and even more of creative restlessness —, as the central duo of an ecosystem that doesn’t stop at its two main actors.
Miss Universe, is a band formed by Afonso Branco and André Ivo, who both share the reins of the entire project, enshrining a musical and visual symbiosis of their identities. “Being Portuguese” was enough to decipher their DNA, but the duo’s debut song hints at an identity that is anything but watertight. Both were also together at the time of the composition, largely done by four hands, they presented themselves to the square with the determination of someone who is not satisfied with half steps or short ambitions.
It is also right from the start that they have revealed authentic ownership over the artistic manifestations through which they unfold, a path that has been taken in parallel with the construction of a first joint work, which is expected without the urgency of a beginner, but which is imposed with the boldness that characterizes them in such a short exposure time.
April will therefore be the advent of new times, a month in which they symbolically promise to return to the square with news, both in terms of authorship and in terms of performances. Starting with the first days of a historic month for those who assume, for better or for worse, “Ser Português”, namely the 3rd, the date that holds a concert for them at the famous Cinema de São Jorge, on the occasion of the Politics Festival.
The debut album, this one, will come from the ongoing period of revelation, progressively unveiled along with the spring winds, ready to sprout under the summer heat. Until then, just follow each step carefully, and freedom will come this way.
