Mixed Courier to debut in 2019 Cycling Europeans
The European Cycling Union announced today the unprecedented inclusion of a mixed courier at the European road championships of 2019, taking place in the Dutch city of Alkmaar, between 07 and 11 August.
[dropcap type=”background”]T[/dropcap]his variant will be part of a program that also includes six background events and as many counter-clock events, destined to the categories of junior, sub-23 and senior men and women, in a total of 13 titles that will be discussed by 800 athletes from 50 countries.
Inspired by the biathlon, the mixed courier has been adopted in modalities such as athletics, swimming and mountain biking, and in September will make its debut at the road world championships in Yorkshire in Britain.
As a step towards greater gender equality, the International Cyclist Union will organize a mixed team counter, in the form of a courier with three men and three women, replacing the classic team counter-clock.
The three men complete the first part of the course and the women finish the race, taking the time of the second runner to cut the goal for classification purposes.
