Monday releases new single “Wasteland”

New feature-length film will be released in 2024

Wasteland” is the name of Monday’s new song and the first single from the album Underwater, feels like eternity, to be released in early 2024 on the Lay Down Recordings label.

The singer-songwriter explores in this song a nostalgic and liminal place, a crossroads between the apathy of letting go or the resolution to embrace change that comes from a place of uncomfortable comfort.

“‘Wasteland’ was born out of the need to find my language in the midst of loneliness. It all started with the chords, melody and lyrics emerging quickly after telling a personal story about changes in my life. It’s so easy to fall into nostalgia right away of something that didn’t work, but it can still be liberating to recognize that and move towards something new”, says Monday about the emergence of the new song.

Still talking about the writing process for “Wasteland“, Monday says that it happened in October 2022, on a late afternoon when the sky was painted in shades of orange and gold, “which always gave me a feeling of hope and enthusiasm for the that’s coming. I wanted to sum up those feelings without also abandoning the discomfort that exists when we have to face something that has hurt us deeply.”

With folk and pop traits, inspired by the stories and female voices of artists like Laura Marling and Bess Atwell, Monday dives into this new phase of composition as well as producing her own songs. This is the first single from what will be her next album, Underwater, Feels Like Eternity, the first in which the artist is in charge of production.

The album will be released in the first quarter of 2024 under the label of Lisbon publisher Lay Down Recordings.

Wasteland” is accompanied by a music video directed by André Tentúgal and Le Joy, filmed in London. The song is now available on all platforms.
