Montanha Mágica continues its climb, in search of the perfect pop song. The new single from Hugo Costa and Rui Freire’s band is called “Verão de 2019” and is now available on digital platforms. A light-hearted and humorous song that talks about disagreements on grey days, to the sound of Conan Osíris’ victory at the Song Festival.
The story begins with the classic boy meets girl. As expected, things go wrong and the protagonist ends up cursing the “Verão de 2019”, its days of shy sunshine, and the book of forever loves that don’t even reach the end of the season.
As a reminder of this summer to forget, this “Verão de 2019” comes to us through the wand of the Montanha Mágica, a magic trick of danceable psychedelic pop, on a journey through time full of juicy references – from Conan Osíris to Ivanka Trump, from Passos Coelho’s “Diabo” to António Costa’s Geringonça.
And since subtext is everything in Free Pop da Montanha Mágica, another rabbit comes out of the hat: the title of the new song is also a pun on “Summer of ’69”, the most famous summer of pop rock, which this year celebrates the respectable age of 40 years.
“Verão de 2019”, the fourth single from Montanha Mágica, comes with an animated music video produced by Spark Studios and anticipates their first album, which will be released in June.
Also part of this debut album will be the singles already released, “Marta e Maria”, “Uma Canção de Verão” and “Ana Cláudia”, the first song revealed, which was presented with a video created in stop motion by the band itself and which served as a theme for the geometric and colorful Pop that the group has accustomed us to.
Montanha Mágica are Hugo Costa and Rui Freire, musicians linked to bands such as Rita Redshoes, dR. estranhoamor or Líderes da Nova Mensagem, with the participation of Xico Santos on bass.
