The Corroios Festivities welcomed Moonspell, a Portuguese gothic metal and black metal band, for a night of heavier, darker rhythms that lit up the festival grounds.
Formed in 1992 in Brandoa, Amadora, they are considered Portugal’s most successful metal band and one of the most internationally recognised. Their unique sound blends the rawness of black metal with the atmospheric elements of gothic metal and folk, creating a distinctive style.
The band began as Morbid God, but changed their name to Moonspell in 1992, marking a new musical phase. Their debut studio album, Wolfheart, released in 1995, is considered a landmark in European metal. The following year, the album Irreligious solidified their success, with the single “Opium” becoming one of their best-known songs.
Throughout their career, Moonspell has explored different styles, from the raw black metal of their early days to experimenting with more electronic and atmospheric sounds on albums like The Butterfly Effect. Vocalist Fernando Ribeiro and guitarist Ricardo Amorim are central figures in the band, which remains active and has a dedicated global fan base.
