More electrified cars are sold in Europe than diesel

Sales of electrified cars have been growing significantly in Europe and in September there was an unprecedented moment. The sale of electrified cars surpassed those with diesel engines in Europe.

2020 has been a very turbulent year for the automotive market on a global scale, and particularly in Europe. Although the number of car registrations (sales) fell by 29% during the first nine months of the year, there are clear signs that Europe is ready for an electrical revolution.

According to the consultancy JATO Dynamics, in September, the number of registrations for electrified cars was higher than that of vehicles with diesel engines. In addition, according to the market analysis, demand for gasoline and diesel cars fell by double digits in September 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

Gasoline car registrations represented 47% of the total volume of the European market, that is, a drop of 12% compared to 2019. In relation to cars with a diesel engine, the drop was 4%. The number of registrations for electrified cars has skyrocketed (from 11% to over 25%).
