The new work by the Portuguese musician who lives in Geneva was composed and produced a few months before the world was hit by the pandemic.
“Euphony” proposes a sound universe between an elegant alternative pop, also deep, and reminiscences of a melancholic trip-hop that inspired Mourah in the past. Some soul and jazz inflections are underlined, supporting a dazzling voice that, at times, recalls one of his musical references, the late Prince.
The album was mixed and co-produced by sound engineer and producer Yvan Bing (Kitchen Studio, Geneva) and mastered by Mandy Parnell (Massive Attack, Radiohead, Björk, Jamie Liddell, Feist, among others) at Black Saloon Studio in London. Mourah, multi-instrumentalist and producer, continues his solitary path as a singer-songwriter to reveal a more refined and intimate approach to music, with the aim of offering timeless work that remains accessible yet intelligent and profound.
The term Euphony, which derives from the ancient Greek εὐφωνία (euphōnía), means “harmony of pleasantly combined sounds” and that is the guiding thread of this album: simple, objective and direct melodies, without being simplistic, aiming more at an emotional response of inner peace. than an intellectual challenge.
Mourah also presents the single “This is the Day”: a manifesto for freedom and self-affirmation, but also for human nature, which seems to forget that it comes from the mother nature that surrounds it. The video is constructed as a dream scenario somewhere in Brazil. From a station platform used for our daily work obligations, suddenly, a journey of colors and emotions takes possession of the character. Thought and imagination are wonderful vehicles for the most exquisite getaways.
