[dropcap type=”background”]M[/dropcap]UMI VERÍN’20, the 1st Professional Music Meeting in Galicia – Portugal was officially presented. The presentation took place at the House of Culture of Verín and was attended by Diego Lourenzo, vice-president of the Municipality of Verín; Emilia Somoza, Verín’s Culture Adviser; Jacobo Sutil, director of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries; Ana Villarino, delegate of Tourism and Environment of the Assembly of Ourense Manuel Vicente “Roxo” (Culturactiva SCG), on the part of MUMI – Galicia; and José Costa (Banzé), by MUMI – Portugal.
MUMI is the first professional music and culture market organized by the two Iberian territories and promoted by an association that integrates companies, professionals and groups from the Galician and Portuguese music sector; and supported by Xunta’s program ‘Your Xacobeo’ with the aim of creating a real and stable round-trip bridge for the music of both countries.
The meeting, which will take place in Verín on March 12, 13 and 14, will bring together artists and bands, promoters, management companies, festivals, publishers, service and production companies, etc. to share ideas, create solid synergies, establish new contact networks and meet new proposals in the first person.
Among the objectives of the meeting, an annual agenda of joint work at the sectoral, corporate and institutional level will also be set to become the reference space for the current musical situation in Galicia and Portugal.
Programming areas
The fair will feature a professional program that will include training activities (technical, legal, marketing), speed meetings (quick meetings) between professionals in the sector, showcases with the selection of artists and bands from Galicia and Portugal, and a sectorial fair with the present companies in different areas of the sector.
The path and achievement of Xacobeo 2021 will be treated specifically as great generators of opportunities for the sector, taking advantage of its cultural heritage and the natural spaces it offers. There will also be concerts open to the general public with the selection of musical proposals of different styles and formats, in a program that will demonstrate the new values and figures already enshrined in multidisciplinary shows for the family and adult audiences.
From the organization of MUMI in Galicia, Manuel Vicente ‘Roxo’ assured that “for a long time that both bands and artists, as well as the Galician and Portuguese music industry, have been looking for space where the professional sector was recognized as a generator of wealth and diversity”.
Roxo guaranteed that “MUMI appears to become a platform for the internationalization of our music, a space where Galicia and Portugal could cooperate directly, weaving professional networks that really strengthen the professional music sector and where we are able to generate synergies that are reflected in medium-term in the production and commercialization of the music of the two countries ”.
Representing the organization of MUMI in Portugal, José Costa explained that for five years now Portugal has been working on the internationalization of its music and that “therefore it was necessary this connection to Galicia to end this mutual ignorance that happens throughout the entire border with Spain ”. José Costa also assured that MUMI “will be very important for the evolution of the dynamics of the sector and the vitality of the artists who participate in MUMI in a profitable and enriching experience”
On the part of the administrations, Diego Lourenzo stated that the Municipality of Verín is proud to be able to host this first edition of the fair and is willing to provide all its collaboration and support in several future editions. Ana Villarino also offered the possibility of receiving in the municipality that she governs and assured that “we are a municipality that we have always had an economic and social coexistence with the neighbours of Portugal, for us a long time ago that the border ceased to exist“.
Villarino was confident that MUMI can bring another type of event around tourism and invest in the value of the heritage of the entire city. Finally, he assured that the local assembly will continue with all the support because this is a fundamental meeting to support culture and to improve our territory.
Jacobo Sutil, representing the Xunta de Galicia by the Galician Agency of Cultural Industries (AGADIC), affirming that MUMI “represents the spirit of Xacobeo because it is a participatory, decentralized and sustainable project, as intended for the ‘Your Xacobeo’ program ‘in charge. Sutil also wanted to leave his support for the work of the co-organization that is being carried out by the promoting companies in both territories and stated that this will be the first of many editions.
Open for subscriptions
Roxo announced that the deadline for presenting artistic proposals to participate in the meeting is now open. Registrations can be made through the website mumimusicas.eu until the 11th of February, and all bands or artists from Galicia and Portugal who have a professional musical project, regardless of the type of formation or style, can be presented. The complete bases can be consulted on the meeting website.
The representative of the MUMI organization also pointed out that “the participating proposals will be chosen by professionals in the sector, following not only the criteria of quality but also of viability within the purposes and characteristics of the fair”. The schedule of the showcases resulting from this selection will be communicated on February 24th.
