Municipalities want to make libraries of the Lower Alentejo more attractive

The Baixo Alentejo Intermunicipal Community (CIMBAL) will promote this year a fair with activities in the region’s public libraries to make them more attractive and create new audiences for reading, it was announced today.

The “Libraries Fair” will run from March to December this year and aims to “create a greater attractiveness for the use” of the public libraries of the 13 municipalities of the region and “stimulate the appearance of new readers for reading”, explains CIMBAL.

Conferences, meetings with writers, reading mediation activities, exhibitions and plays, music and poetry are the activities planned.

The fair will be organized by the Intermunicipal Network of Libraries of Baixo Alentejo, which was created in 2018 by CIMBAL and the General Direction of Books, Archives, and Libraries.

The event will involve an investment of 87,453 euros, which will be co-financed in 85% by EU funds, thanks to an application submitted by CIMBAL and already approved under the Regional Operational Program Alentejo 2020.
