Museums and monuments in Lisbon reopen with free month

The progressive decommissioning program announced on March 11 by the Government allows, from April 5, in the culture sector, the reopening of museums, monuments, palaces, and art galleries.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n April 5, Monday, the São Jorge Castle, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, which celebrates the 8th anniversary, reopen and inaugurates ‘Flora’, an exhibition with some of the acquisitions made by Lisbon City Hall and the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, for the respective collections.

On April 6, the other monuments and museums under the tutelage of the municipal company will reopen, namely, the Municipal Galleries, the Lisbon Museum (Palácio Pimenta, Santo António, Roman Theater and Casa dos Bicos), the Bordalo Pinheiro Museum, the Museu do Fado, the Marionette Museum, the Aljube Museum and Casa Fernando Pessoa.

The Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology (MAAT) also reopens to the public on April 5, with three new exhibitions of this year’s season: ‘Aquaria – Or the Illusion of a Closed Sea’, ‘X Not a Country Small – Unveiling the Post-Global Era ‘, and’ Earth Bits – Feeling the Planet ‘, which will be open until September 6 this year.

On the weekend of April 24 and 25 – when the Central Tejo building reopens to the public – there will be a special program with the participation of the curators involved in the three new projects, which will include performances and live conversations.

MAAT also inaugurates ‘Earth Bits – Feeling the Planet’, an installation of dotdotdot, a design studio based in Milan, developed with the scientific collaboration of the European Space Agency (ESA), and the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the support of EDP Inovação and the EDP Group’s Sustainability Department.

The Berardo Collection Museum will also reopen to the public on April 5, with several exhibitions already on display, including “Dar Corpo ao Vazio”, by Cristina Ataíde, “Constellations II: a choreography of minimal gestures”, which according to the museum, were extended until August 22 and June 30, respectively.

On April 14, the Berardo Museum inaugurates a new exhibition, with the works of the finalists of the Prize The Art Arrived in Colombo.
