Free concerts in Churches and Temples of Lisbon.
Between December 1 and 23, EGEAC – Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company presents a free program with concerts and other activities in different stages of the city. Orchestras and choirs return to the churches with Christmas classics, this year focusing on baroque music, but also on contemporary melodies, passing through traditional and popular pieces from Portugal and the world.
The churches of São Pedro in Alcântara, Nossa Senhora do Amparo (in Benfica), and Alto do Lumiar, are opening as stages of Christmas in Lisbon, which, as is tradition, is also an invitation to discover the ecclesiastical patrimony of the city.
Reinforcing the spirit of openness to all the communities of diverse origins that are part of the city, this year we again invite the Ismaili and Hindu communities, who will open the doors of their temples to the public for guided tours and varied spectacles, in a special opportunity to know better the traditions and places of worship of these communities.
A new guest – the Portuguese Buddhist Union – will also participate in this program with two meditation sessions that will take place at Cinema São Jorge, on the 15th and 16th, starting at 11 am.
Also at the Humberto Delgado Airport, on the 20th, there will be a performance of the Choir of Nations in the arrivals hall, starting at 7:00 pm, that will interpret songs by authors as diverse as Mozart and Sérgio Godinho.
The São Luiz Theater is another of the stages of this Christmas in Lisbon, receiving on the 19th the Orquestra Clássica Metropolitana in an unforgettable concert to listen to Mozart’s’ Flute Mágica ‘, Beethoven’s’ Piano Concerto No. 5′ and ‘ Nuts’ by Tchaikovsky.
We will also discover old Christmas traditions, through a program of activities for the whole family, distributed by three centres of the Lisbon Museum: Pimenta Palace, Santo António and Teatro Romano.
Still in the Museum of Lisbon – Santo António, on the second weekend of December, we invite the whole family to know a story through the Opera. The story of ‘Orpheus and Eurydice’ that transports us on a magical journey to the Greek mythological world.
