“Portuguese Music in the reign of King Manuel II”
A concert that is a musical journey through the reign of the last King of Portugal
D. Manuel II had a special taste for the arts in general, for History, literature and music in particular, he even played the organ and piano. Also called “the Patriot” or “the Unfortunate“, he was the last king of Portugal and reigned from February 1, 1908, until the establishment of the Republic, on October 5, 1910.
Forced to interrupt his studies at the age of eighteen to assume the throne, his culture and immense love for books, music and everything Portuguese are an unmistakable mark of his reign.
The next concert “Portuguese Music in the reign of King Manuel II“, presents a journey through the Portuguese musical repertoire that accompanied the reign of the last King of Portugal, by the hands of the Staccato Quartet, which counts with João Sebastião as the tenor, Marcos Lázaro on violin, Bárbara Duarte on cello and Viktoriya Gakman on piano.
The Casa de Bragança Foundation concerts always take place on the last Friday of each month, at the Chapel of the Paço Ducal in Vila Viçosa, at 9 pm, with free admission.
