Last Saturday, June 7, Nancy Vieira was the big winner at the Cabo Verde Music Awards, winning each of the awards for which she was nominated.
In total, the singer won 4 awards in the categories Traditional Music of the Year, with “Praia Maria”; Morna of the Year, with “Dona Morna”; Female Performer of the Year, with “Sol Di Nha Vida”; and Album of the Year, with Gente (2024).
The gala of the 14th edition of the ceremony that recognises Cape Verdean talents took place at the port of the city of Praia and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the country’s Independence, which is celebrated on July 5.
One of the celebrations of this half century featured Nancy Vieira, who, alongside Nelson Freitas and Lura, starred in an unprecedented performance of “Geração 75”. For the first time, three of Cape Verde’s greatest artists, all born in 1975 – the year of independence – came together on stage to perform a medley of historical themes from the archipelago. At the end of the performance, the Ministry of Culture awarded them an award in gratitude for their contribution to national music.
