Nancy Vieira releases new album with presentation concert in Lisbon
Nancy Vieira has a new work, Gente, which will be released worldwide on March 15th by the German publisher Galileo Music. The live premiere is scheduled for March 8th, International Women’s Day, at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal, in Lisbon.
On stage, accompanying the singer will be Osvaldo Marcos Dias (Vaiss), acoustic guitar, cavaquinho; Olmo Marín, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, cavaquinho; Jorge Cervantes, bass and charango; Iúri Oliveira, percussion. Some special guests will also be present at the concert, who will be announced shortly.
Gente features production by Amélia Muge, José Martins and Nancy Vieira, contrasting the development of encounters of ideas between musicians of various nationalities, genres, ages and feelings.
There are many people in this Gente, an album that avoids the easy path of touches of “modernity” given through technology and that prefers, in its apparent formal traditionalism, to promote the particular magic that only happens when people from different walks of life meet in the same space to share, play and sing their different stories. There is a lot of Cape Verde on this album, or had Nancy not been named so many times as heir to Cesária Évora, one of her strongest muses. But, in Gente, you also find that world that only exists on the streets of Lisbon and where you can hear the nuances of Brazil, echoes of so many other Africas and many Europes and Americas. There is morna and samba, fado and funaná, sophistication with jazz tones and pop-spirited adventure. There are people. There is life. This is an album made now with tomorrow in mind. Yesterday only matters because it’s what brought us all here. To this record and this song.
