Before heading to Japan, Nancy Vieira & Fred Martins bring Esperança to Lisbon, with two unique shows.
They have known each other since 2013, the year in which they established a valuable musical bridge between Cape Verde and Brazil. Last April, Nancy Vieira and Fred Martins crystallised this connection with a surprising album that extends their ties to yet another country.
Esperança was released by the Japanese label Respect Record and has already reached first place on the Amazon Japan World Music Chart.
This fortuitous crossing, which now takes place across two oceans, is honoured with a live performance in Lisbon, at the àCapela bar of the city’s newest cultural space, MACAM – Armando Martins Museum of Contemporary Art, on two unmissable occasions: June 19 and 20.
On one side, the unmistakable voice of a Creole who is as universal as he is sweet, as sensual as he is modern. On the other hand, an award-winning composer and guitarist, acclaimed by the public, praised by critics and admired by his peers.
Com o amor e a paz enquanto fios condutores, Esperança revela o melhor de dois mundos – a morna e a bossa nova –, numa fusão evocativa da música enraizada nos países de origem de Nancy Vieira e Fred Martins. Ao vivo, a dupla vai transmitir a cumplicidade ímpar que partilham e a sinceridade total que percorre o novo trabalho.
O concerto em Lisboa antecipa três actuações na Terra do Sol Nascente, em Julho: dia 19, em Kobe, e dias 20 e 21, em Tóquio, no seguimento da edição japonesa de Esperança.
Gravado por Jorge Cervantes – que participa em “Saiko Dayo” –, no CervanteStudio (Lisboa), o álbum inclui 11 faixas de coração sintonizado com o presente e com os sinais dos tempos, entre originais, canções tradicionais de Cabo Verde e o bolero cubano “Tú Me Acostumbraste”.
Through these songs, Nancy Vieira and Fred Martins want to remind us that “compassion, empathy, a collective sense of life, solidarity and respect can exist in this world, because love is the basis of everything”.
At MACAM’s àCapela, on June 19 and 20, at 7:30 pm, two artists as genuine as they are universal will release “verses that vibrate for the good of each one and also for the common good”.
