Nani Medeiros Sings Clara Nunes

28th, at Samambaia Bar, at 8pm

A concert with the energy of the orixás: this is what the show Nani Medeiros Canta Clara Nunes” promises, next Saturday, at Samambaia Bar, in which the singer walks through the Brazilian artist’s repertoire, performing her biggest hits and also songs not so well known to the general public. João Pita accompanies her on the 7-string guitar.

In the year in which she would have turned 80, and 40 years since her death, Clara Nunes continues to be an inspiration for many artists. She spoke about freedom and fought against religious racism at a time when the topic was hardly talked about. Born in Minas Gerais, Clara discovered herself in Rio de Janeiro, seeing the sea for the first time and being enchanted by the African drums, which led her to two new and intense passions: Portela samba and the Umbanda and Candomblé, religions of African origin.

ABOUT NANI MEDEIROS
Nani Medeiros was born in Brazil, more precisely in Rio Grande do Sul, in 1985. She is a singer, actress and presenter. She has sung alongside artists such as Fito Paes, Vanessa da Mata, Maestro João Carlos Martins and Antonio Villeroy, among others. Its main references are great names in Brazilian music such as Elizeth Cardoso, Clara Nunes, Nana Caymmi and Elis Regina, and in Portuguese music the fado of Amália Rodrigues. In 2016, she started singing fado and gained national recognition, which led her, the following year, to perform for the first time in Portugal, where she currently lives. The format of their shows and presentations usually ranges from band (voice, 7-string guitar, 6-string guitar, cavaco, piano and percussion) to reduced formats such as “voice and guitar”. In the “Duo” format, Nani currently works with guitarist Junior Pita (member of “Regional Imperial” – Brazilian instrumental Choro group), and together they present different shows of Brazilian music, Fado and the meeting of these two musical cultures.
