The painter who once chose to live in Portugal, “a place of connection between Luso-Brazilian and Luso-Arab cultures”, clearly expresses her interest in and knowledge of indigenous cultures and her desire for an art that expresses the signs and icons of her cultures. mythologies. In this painting there is a feminine sensibility, we find, for example, several allusions to the myth of the “Great Mother”, present in so many primitive societies but also the ancestral root of common imaginaries.
“Travel transforms us. When we feel the urge to travel to other places, we find different emotions, discover places and people that sometimes awaken memories of our land. We notice the details and hear stories that are no different from our homeland. Beauty, melancholy, and nostalgia are attributes of the human being, regardless of where we live. Portugal is an inspiring country of hills and mills. Rhythmic vegetation by the sea. Boats at sea and on land. I choose objects to re-create the soul of the place, the hidden and unveiled poetry”, underlines Mariola Landowska.
