The National Library of Portugal dedicates an exhibition to Joel Serrão
Revealing the collection of this summit figure of Portuguese historiography and culture in the second half of the twentieth century, the exhibition will be in the National Library of Portugal and will be on display from 16 September.
Curated by researcher José Guedes de Sousa, the exhibition honours the historian who affirmed himself in the Portuguese intellectual world from the years of World War II.
Joel Serrão‘s work denotes a wide variety of interests, ranging from his initial philosophical propensity to literary studies, which covered several authors, such as Fernando Pessoa, as early as 1945.
His public recognition was also associated with the coordination of the Portuguese History Dictionary, a landmark work of this period that symbolically crystallized the state of Portuguese historiography during the 1960s.
