The Cape Verde women’s soccer team thrashed their Guinea-Conakry counterpart 3-0 in the third and final round of Group A of the West African Union of Federations Cup (UFOA) that takes place in Sierra Leone and qualified for the semi-finals of this continental competition.
A hat-trick by goalkeeper Ireland Lopes, voted best on the field, cemented the qualification of the Creole team in this event. With this triumph Cape Verde scored four points in three games, ending the group with a draw against the hosts of Sierra Leone (0-0), defeat by Senegal (0-2) and with this defeat by Guinea-Conakry by 3 -0.
Ireland Lopes became the third player to make a hat-trick in this group stage, as well as Aguissa Diarra from Mali and Gambian Adama Tamba.
The Senegalese team won group A with seven points, the result of two victories and a draw.
