Nearly a thousand films were enrolled in the 6th Leiria Film Fest, an international short film festival whose next edition takes place between March 21 and 24, 2019, the organization said today.
In total there are 940 films from 71 countries, of which 155 are Portuguese, a growth of one third compared to the previous edition, which is a record.
According to the director of the Leiria Film Fest, there is a “giant Portuguese and regional affluence”, highlighting Bruno Carnide the 30 films from the district of Leiria and the municipalities of Ourém and Tomar submitted to a competition. In terms of national production, “the numbers have doubled”.
For Bruno Carnide, “the quality of the selection of the Leiria Film Fest, and the festival itself have made more and more filmmakers want to have their films selected here, in this seafront corner planted in the centre of the country.”
The Leiria short film festival is dedicated to films lasting up to 15 minutes, in the categories fiction, animation and documentary, awarding prizes at the local, national and international level.
