Nelson Freitas and Dj Man Renas distinguished with Afrimma awards

Musicians Nelson Freitas from Cape Verde and Dj Man Renas from Angola were honored at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (Afrimma) at a ceremony held in Dallas, the organization said.

Producer and singer Nelson Freitas, son of Cape Verdean parents, but born in the Netherlands, received the Best Lusophone Artist award.

The musician has recorded with Vanessa da Mata and Ben Harper, and worked with Angolans C4Pedro and Anselmo Ralph, as well as Portuguese Mikkel Solnado and Richie Campbell.

Nelson Freitas recorded in 2006 his first album in his own name, “Magic”, followed by “My Life” in 2010, “Elevate” in 2013, and “Four” in 2016.

His video “Simple Girl” was distinguished at the Cape Verde Music Awards in 2013.

Nelson Freitas has a concert scheduled for the stage of the Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon, on November 15th, with fado singer Ana Moura as guest.

“Ku Pudding Cake”, “Nha Baby” and “Problem” are some of the themes of Nelson Freitas’ repertoire.

The Angolan Dj Man Renas (Renato Macedo) won in the category Best DJ Africa (“Best Dj Africa”).

The musician took his first steps at Palmeiras Club, in Luanda, having worked overseas in countries such as China, the United States and Portugal.
