Nicola Spirig winner of the Lisbon triathlon World Cup
Swiss triathlete Nicola Spirig was today in Lisbon the winner of the triathlon World Cup women’s event, the best Portuguese was Melanie Santos and was in 16th position.
Nicola Spirig, Olympic champion in London2012 and silver medalist at Rio2016, held the event that consisted of 1.5 kilometres of swimming, 40 cycling and 10 athletics in the time of 1: 59.04 hours.
The Swiss athlete only managed to win on the last lap when she overtook the Irish Carolyn Hayes who had led since the beginning of the athletics segment.
The Irishwoman won the silver medal completing the race with another 12 seconds followed by American Kirsten Kasper with 34 seconds more than the winner.
A portuguesa Melanie Santos, a única atleta nacional a competir, terminou na 16.ª posição, completando a prova com mais 2.56 minutos que Nicola Spirig.
