The Coliseu dos Recreios received the King of Samba, Martinho da Vila returned to Portugal for an enchanted night of joy and music.

Martinho da Vila is one of the greatest names in Brazilian popular music, known for his striking compositions, his unmistakable voice and his deep connection with samba. Born in Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro, in 1938, Martinho became one of the main representatives of Brazilian culture and one of the most important samba composers in the country.

With a career that stretches over decades, Martinho da Vila has a vast repertoire of hits, which have marked generations and continue to be sung today. Some of his best-known songs are “Casa de Bamba”, “Devagar, Devagarinho”, “Feitiço da Vila”, a tribute to his samba school of the heart, the Unidos de Vila Isabel, and“O que é que a Baiana tem”.

In addition to being a samba singer, Martinho is also a writer, composer for other artists and a great cultural activist. He has always used his art to address important social issues and to defend the Brazilian culture.

With more than 50 albums and 20 books published, Martinho continues to be a beacon of Brazilian music and we can see it again in Portugal to hear some of its hits, on a night where Samba was king and which also had the presence of Mart’nália.

Daughter of Martinho da Vila, Mart’nália grew up immersed in the world of samba and from an early age showed a natural talent for music, following in her father’s footsteps.
