Nova Batida Festival debuts in Lisbon this week

The “new city festival” Nova Batida, whose schedule includes concerts, surfing and yoga classes, street entertainments and boat parties, takes place for the first time in Lisbon from Friday.

The New Beat “blends the latest music, art, culture and lifestyle from every corner of the globe” in the city the organization describes as “one of Europe’s most exciting creative centers.”

The locations chosen to host the “new city festival” between Friday and Sunday were the Lx Factory and the Village Underground, both in the Alcântara area.

The musical program joins “some of the best international talent passing through new, exciting and diverse musical genres”, among them Swedish Little Dragon, Briton Gilles Peterson, British duo Mount Kimbie, Nigerian Seun Kuti and Portuguese Riot, Octa Push and Rita Maia.

In addition to music, the festival promotes “surfing and yoga classes and other street animations in an extended proposal that intends also to be a presentation script for the city of Lisbon and its multiple communities and dimensions.”

The program also includes, during the afternoon, four boat parties: Reggae & CC Culture Boat, Soul & Disco, Hip Hop & Beats and Tropical Sounds.

The New Beat, the organization says, joins the Soundcrash promoter with “Europe’s most trendy city and the most up-to-date line-up.”

In addition to Little Dragon, Gilles Peterson, Mount Kimbie, Seun Kuti and Octa Push, artists such as Maribou State, Max Cooper, Bukem LTJ, DJ Marfox, Camilla Fuchs, among many others.
