New confirmation in the Southwest, Martin Garrix

Herdade da Casa Branca, Zambujeira do Mar - Odemira, August 7th

From August 7th to 10th, the Southwest is the summer destination. After the confirmation of Da Weasel and Matuê, there is another luxury name confirmed for this year’s edition poster.

After performances in 2014, when he was just 17 years old, in 2016 and 2017, Martin Garrix, one of the biggest DJs on the planet and one of the brightest stars of the pop and electronic scene, returns to Festival Sudoeste in this year’s edition.

At just 27 years old, Martin Garrix is on the list of the biggest DJs and producers in the world, dominating the pop and electronic scene like few others, and with a success that, despite his youth, has lasted for a decade. Garrix has already taken his talent all over the world, being present at the biggest festivals on the planet, such as Coachella, Lollapalooza or Tomorrowland, and collaborating with stars as big as Dua Lipa, Bono and The Edge (U2), Khalid, Macklemore, among others. Martin has his label, STMPD RCRDS, which covers genres such as tech house, deep house and trap. Pronounced Stamped Records, it is named after his father’s stamp auction business, whose motto is “Artists First. Ever”. It also has its studio where names like Young Thug, Big Sean, One Republic, Yungblud and David Guetta have recorded, as well as a series of producers and agencies such as Netflix, ABC and CBS.

Garrix was born and raised in the Netherlands and attributes his introduction to the world of electronic music to Tiësto’s performance at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Since then, he has never stopped feeding his passion for electronic frequencies, seeking to feed his talent with training in the field of music production. His first big success came with “Animals”, in 2013.

This hit made Martin become a key figure in electronic music at just 17 years old. And he never stopped. With a young approach and an energetic spirit, without ever losing focus on musical quality, other successful songs appeared, one after the other: “Don’t Look Down”, “Scared to Be Lonely”, “There for You”, “Ocean”, “High on Life”, “No Sleep”, “Summer Days” or “In the Name of Love” are great examples of this. His refined sensitivity for producing electronic melodies capable of reaching the ears of millions of people is reflected in astronomical numbers on streaming platforms, such as Spotify, or on YouTube itself.

His versatility and constant reinvention contributed to his position as number one on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list between 2016 and 2018. After releasing so many singles that became worldwide hits, he released his first album in 2022. “Sentio” is thought to the dance floor. These new releases made Garrix reach the top of DJ Mag for the fourth time in 2022. This feat was marked with an unprecedented performance – he became the first DJ authorized to perform at the top of the Empire State Building in New York.

He is, therefore, a super successful DJ who returns to Portugal in 2024, and to a place he knows well: the Southwest. After debuting ten years ago, in 2014, when he was just 17 years old, and returning to the Festival in 2016 and 2017, he now returns to perform on August 7th.
