The new exhibition by the painter from Trás-os-Montes, which portrays “the fear, anguish and loneliness” of the last year and a half (of the pandemic and beyond), was inaugurated at the Graça Morais Contemporary Art Center.
“In her work and in her words, Graça Morais is an authentic ambassador of Trás-os-Montes in Portugal and in the world,” said Hernâni Dias, Mayor of Bragança, during the inauguration of the exhibition.
In total there are 52 works on display, almost all of them unpublished, which interpret, in the artist’s unique trait, the current situation of our days and address the most varied media episodes in the world (from the pandemic to episodes of international racism, among others) and several more personal concerns.
Alongside the drawings and paintings, the illustrious artist prepared an unprecedented installation: a room entirely covered by newspaper pages, witnesses of the present and privileged sources of her work, providing the visitor with a differentiated experience in contact with her work.
The exhibition “Inquietações” will be on display at the Graça Morais Contemporary Art Center until January 23, 2022.
In addition to the inauguration, Graça Morais also made official the donation of 69 works of art to the collection of the Contemporary Art Center, the municipal cultural space to which the artist gives her name.
The new facilities of the Graça Morais Mountain Arts Laboratory, located on Rua Oróbio de Castro, in the building of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, were also inaugurated.
