RAP CRIOULO

In 2025, Sumol Summer Fest celebrates Rap Crioulo in an unrepeatable meeting of generations. Creole rap legends take to the stage at Sumol Summer Fest to exalt and celebrate the movement’s impact on Portuguese culture.

This unique show, specially prepared for the Sumol Stage of the 15th edition of the festival, will feature a little bit of all generations, with names such as Landim, TWA, Nigga Poison, Loreta, Nex Supremo, Juana Na Rap, Mynda Guevara, Ghoya, Neh Jah, XRootz and also DJs Kronik and Fumaxa. The history of Creole rap began to be told practically at the same time as the history of Portuguese rap, making it difficult to pinpoint a date, but names like TWA or Nigga Poison impacted the movement and caused some borders to be eliminated, spreading their dialect within Portuguese territory, and later in countries like France or England.

At the 15th Sumol Summer Fest, in 2025, 50 years after the independence of the former Portuguese colonies, all generations will have a voice, uniting stories and songs that span time and connect the public with the greatest hits from the careers of each of these artists. The artist Loreta, when asked about this generational meeting, concluded: “You can imagine what this means to me because it is actually happening… There are several generations that have done a lot for Creole rap, the doors that are open today for me and many others are thanks to people who will step onto this stage…”.

During the show, in addition to the artists who will be on stage, there will also be surprise tributes to other figures in this musical genre, artists who have catalyzed this culture to this day. Creole rap will therefore be celebrated in a unique moment, on the Sumol Stage at the 15th Sumol Summer Fest, on July 5th.

TIACORINE

TiaCorine is one of the names of the moment. Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Tia grew up in a multicultural home. Her father, of Japanese and African-American descent, and her mother, a Shoshone Indian, exposed little Tia to a huge musical diversity from the age of four. Her father played the greats of hip-hop, both old and new school, while her mother introduced her to the greatest hits of pop and rock.

This is how Tia’s unique musical style began to take shape. At a young age, she began performing in local talent shows and began taking flute and piano lessons. Knowing the importance of education, she attended Winston-Salem State University. Although she took a break from her studies to raise her daughter, Zoe, she returned to her studies and graduated with honors in Exercise Physiology. In 2018, he released the single “Lotto”, which caught the attention of local radio stations, DJs and clubs, and which also made him popular on the internet, spreading his name throughout the United States.

This success led to her signing with South Coast Music Group in 2019. Since then, Tia has released several projects, including the EPs “34Corine” (2020) and “The Saga of 34Corine” (2021), and her debut album, “I Can’t Wait” (2022). These steps have won her over both the public and critics, who have referred to the artist and composer as an authentic “gift of Portuguese urban music”.
