The strong specialization in the industrial and logistics area guaranteed Garcia Garcia another project for the Garland Group, one of the market leaders in the Navigation, Transport and Logistics sector in Portugal, with the construction of a new logistics center. Located in Valadares, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, the logistics center that will be one of the first in Portugal with BREEAM New Construction certification, has the intervention of Garcia in terms of the project and the execution of the work, whose conclusion is scheduled for July.
With a covered area of 38 thousand m2 and capacity for 100 thousand pallets, Garland’s new logistics center will boost the company’s growth and allow the creation of more than 100 jobs. Implemented on a plot of about 100,000 m2, it benefits from a strategic location and excellent accessibility, next to the Arcozelo node, between the A44 and the A29.
“All our acquired and proven how-how in the industrial and logistics area has once again justified the confidence of the Garland Group, which has chosen us as a partner for the execution of this state-of-the-art project. In addition to being oriented towards greater response efficiency, this new building meets all the best practices of innovation and environmental and energy sustainability”, explains Carlos Garcia, administrator of Garcia Garcia.
The work plan highlights the high-planimetry floor, the 44 uneven piers, including telescopic piers to allow adaptation to any type of vehicle, and the incorporation of advanced safety and fire protection models, such as a FM approved sprinkler system.
With the aim of becoming one of the first logistics centers in Portugal with the BREEAM New Construction international certification, a building sustainability assessment system, the project was developed to include solutions aimed at energy efficiency and minimizing the environmental footprint.
The commitment to a sustainable energy plan, using lighting management systems, maximizing overhead lighting and producing energy for self-consumption, among others, marks the project. In addition to the above, the materials used in the construction were carefully selected, with the choice falling on materials of high performance and durability, as well as with an efficient and environmentally viable production cycle.
This is the fourth project that Garcia has developed with Garland, reinforcing a partnership started in 2011, when the construction company was responsible for the construction of the Maia logistics center (distinguished with three awards, including the SIL Real Estate Award 2012). In 2015, the construction company ensured the rehabilitation of the headquarters and logistics center of Abóboda and, in the following year, the rehabilitation of the old industrial facilities of Yasaki Saltano in Gaia, having also in 2017 expanded the facilities in Maia.
