New Skate Park strengthens active tourism offerings in the Lisbon region

At a time when demand for outdoor experiences and active tourism is growing, the Lisbon Region is strengthening its offerings with the opening of a new facility dedicated to extreme sports.

The recently opened Skate Park in Baixa da Banheira, in the municipality of Moita, is now part of the urban landscape of Parque José Afonso, boasting modern infrastructure for extreme sports such as skateboarding, rollerblading, and BMX.

The project, which represents an investment of €137,555.89, is the result of a long-standing aspiration of the local community, now realised, combining leisure, health, and intergenerational interaction. Focused on younger people and informal activities, the new public space aims to revitalise the area and promote healthier lifestyles.

Carla Salsinha, President of the Executive Committee of the Regional Tourism Authority of the Lisbon Region, emphasises that “the Lisbon Region is increasingly recognised for its diversity of experiences and its ability to integrate new forms of tourism and leisure into the region. The new Skate Park thus aims to boost regional tourism by establishing the municipality of Moita as an urban destination for active tourism, which directly contributes to the balance between heritage, nature, and sports.”

Located in a central, easily accessible location, the Baixa da Banheira Skate Park is part of a broader strategy to enhance public spaces, promote social cohesion, and strengthen the relationship between residents and visitors.
