New IPS students mobilize to clean the Sado estuary

“IntegraTe” welcome program focuses on environmental awareness

Students who have recently arrived at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) will once again volunteer for a cleaning action on the banks of the Sado Estuary, which takes place on the morning of Wednesday, the 20th, in the industrial zone of Mitrena.

More than 500 young people are mobilized for this environmental awareness initiative, as part of the “IntegraTe” program, to welcome and integrate new IPS students in this academic year 2021/2022, running until December with various thematic initiatives to make known the institution, its support services, the dynamics of its academic life and the projects it has in progress.

The action, organized in conjunction with the Academic Association (AAIPS) and which is again the result of a partnership with Ocean Alive, a marine education cooperative, begins at 9:30 am, at the IPS campus in Setúbal, from where 12 buses will depart towards the various areas considered critical in the Mitrena area. The initiative has the support of the Leroy Merlin store, Setúbal City Council and Sado Parish Council.

In the afternoon, attention turns to IPS’s own campus in Setúbal, with teams of volunteers distributed between a cleaning operation and a tree and shrub planting action, continuing the campaign to plant the space with species. autochthonous.

Once again, IPS and its Academic Association are committed to a different and consistent way of promoting the integration of newcomers to the IPS community and the cities of Setúbal and Barreiro, in line with the long-standing mission of social responsibility by the institution.
