The 12th anniversary of Salão Brazil under the management of Jazz ao Centro Clube will be celebrated with two concerts
October 17 and 18
Jazz ao Centro Clube, a non-profit cultural association created in Coimbra in April 2003, arrived at Salão Brazil in August 2012, following the acquisition of the restaurant space that previously operated there.
On October 19, 2012, Salão Brazil hosted the first concert of the regular programming under the responsibility of Jazz ao Centro Clube, a programming that has continued uninterrupted for these 12 years, comprising nearly 1500 activities including concerts, performances, educational and training activities, artistic residencies, etc.
In August 2024, following the acquisition of the building by the Municipality of Coimbra, Jazz ao Centro Clube became the Managing Entity of the Municipal Cultural Space named Salão Brazil, opening a new chapter in the already long history of this emblematic building, located in the heart of downtown Coimbra.
“These 12 years have revealed the importance of a cultural space like Salão Brazil. Fortunately, and unlike what has happened in other places, the recognition of this importance has been broad and led the Municipality of Coimbra to exercise the right of preference in acquiring the building, thus ensuring the continuity of its socio-cultural uses and functions. For JACC – Jazz ao Centro Clube, the celebration of this anniversary highlights the entry of Salão Brazil into the universe of Municipal Cultural Facilities, opening doors to the future development of new capabilities and contributions to the city and the region,” says José Miguel Pereira, director of JACC.
