Cupula Circus Village – Contemporary Circus Festival returns for its 7th edition. This year, it will take place on September 19, 20, and 21 at the Picnic Area in Arcozelo, Vila Nova de Gaia.
The festival is produced and organised by INAC – the National Institute of Circus Arts, in co-production with the Arcozelo Parish Council.
This year, in addition to INAC, we highlight the presence of national and international companies, such as BlucinQue (Italy), Leirena (Portugal), Tant qu’il y a de la vie (France), Nuvem Voadora (Portugal), Il Trio Circ (Italy), among others.
In this 7th edition, the Cupula Circus Village will feature an artistic residency program, in which artists will spend a week at INAC’s facilities and then adapt their work to the Festival’s various venues, including the forest and the beach.
This year, INAC will invest primarily in street shows, in addition to the main tent, to foster greater connection and intimacy with the audience.
As the first contemporary circus village in Portugal, the Cupula Circus Village presents an international cultural and tourist route, promoting transformative encounters and unique exchanges between different audiences and artists. With a comprehensive, varied, and completely free program, the festival site consists of three circus tents, outdoor performance spaces, training spaces, a food court, and even Camping. Aimed at people of all ages, the Festival contributes to increasing the diversity and quality of artistic offerings nationwide through programming high-level technical and artistic performances, with a primary emphasis on original creations and emerging artists.
The Festival also aims to positively impact the local economy and promote the parish of Arcozelo as a hub for cultural and social development, thus offering a different dynamic to the daily lives of the region’s residents.
