The Rallycross and Kartcross spectacle is back in Lousada

with the debut of the renewed circuit

The Lousada Automobile Club will hold the third round of the Portuguese Rallycross and Kartcross Championship this weekend. The event has 62 entrants, a record this season, and promises a weekend full of adrenaline, speed and spectacle on a renewed and challenging track.

Lousada is the capital of Rallycross, and this event has the attraction of debuting the new track after the recent expansion and requalification works. It is on a more technical and safer circuit that the Super Special of the Rally of Portugal will also be held, on May 17th, and the World Rallycross Championship, at the end of May. Another new feature at Lousada I by SOMA is the presence of powerful four-wheel drive supercars with turbo engines.

Spectators will also see the front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive Super 1600s in action, as well as the National 2RM two-wheel drive cars from Division 1 (up to 1600cc) and Division 2 (from 1601cc to 3500cc) and the Beginner category (1000cc) for youngsters aged between 13 and 17. The Kartcross competition is contested with off-road, rear-wheel drive karts.

In the Super 1600 category, Jorge Machado (Peugeot 208 S1600) dominated the first two races and is the big favourite for Lousada. Adão Pinto (Opel Astra 2.0) leads the championship in the National 2RM category and will want to repeat Mação’s triumph in Division 2, despite opposition from champion André Martinho (BMW 328i). In Division 1, the favourite goes to Rafaela Barbosa (Citroën Saxo), who leads the championship after winning in Castelo Branco and second place in Mação, but has to face opposition from current champion Bruno Lima (Citroën Saxo).

Michael Braun (Citroën C1) easily won both Novice races. In Lousada, we want to do our best and defend the title we hold in Division 1.0. After winning in Mação, Gustavo Henriques (LBS RX01) leads the Kartcross championship and is one of the favourites for this weekend, as well as Guilherme Matos (Semog Bravo Sport), who won in Castelo Branco, and national champion Alexandre Borges (ASK XCR).

In addition to the races, spectators can enjoy a food court, spaces created with families in mind and parallel activities throughout the weekend. Ticket prices are €15 for the weekend and €10 for Saturday and Sunday, and entry is free for women.

Those who cannot go to Lousada can watch the event broadcast on YouTube, on the FPAK channel.
