MOBILITY

#EuVouDeTransportes is a call to action for everyone travelling to Rock in Rio Lisboa, indicating more sustainable alternatives, with the guarantee of maximum comfort and safety. SUSTAINABILITY

The Rock in Rio has, over the last 20 years, practised and promoted sustainability actions with an impact on three aspects: economic, environmental and social. Committing to leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the community, and continuing its commitment to sustainability, the festival announced in 2021, a set of goals to be achieved by 2030, focused on 6 fundamental themes: training, food systems, safety and well-being, circular economy, involvement of all, inclusion and plurality. Are they:

  • 50% healthy and sustainable food supply – in 2024, Rock in Rio is raising awareness among partners to adopt this practice and collecting feedback through questionnaires from F&B (food and beverage) partners to assess where they are in this goal, as well as joining ReFood to collect food scraps;
  • Training 100,000 people – in 2024, Rock in Rio will once again bring an edition of the Rock in Rio Academy, as well as the Rock U training project to train people in event areas, in addition to training for C-level and training sessions training for team and partners;
  • Produce events understood as plural by 100% of the public – in 2024, Rock in Rio hired staff, hostesses and support staff with plurality criteria, placed non-binary toilets on the festival grounds, offered specialized services and operations for people with disabilities, and launched awareness campaigns on embracing diversity for the public, team and partners;
  • Produce 100% safe events – in 2024, Rock in Rio is improving control over compliance with OSH requirements, and has designed a security plan that has several intervention forces;
    Make 100% of stakeholders aware of the Sustainability Policy – in 2024, Rock in Rio collected expectations and needs about sustainability, and will once again have another edition of the Rock in Rio Sustainable Attitude Award, which rewards the partner that had the best sustainable practices throughout the festival;
  • Produce a 0% landfill waste event (goal achieved in 2022) – in 2024, Rock in Rio will reuse materials from other editions, donate and send for recycling materials that cannot be reused, encourage a circular economy between partners, have more graphic waste signage, have reusable cups and more than 100 drinking fountains spread throughout the venue to reduce plastic, collect food scraps for donation and coffee grounds to fertilize the soil, and generate energy through incineration of unused waste.

Continuing with the theme of Sustainability, Galp, the main sponsor of Rock in Rio Lisboa, will contribute to reducing the environmental impact of this year’s edition of the festival, through the supply of 100% Renewable Gas Oil (HVO) for the six diesel generators that guarantee the energy of the stages and the venue at Parque Tejo, in Lisbon.

According to estimates by the Rock in Rio organization, over the four days of the festival, generator consumption could be equivalent to around 70 thousand litres of fuel. Replacing mineral diesel with HVO supplied by Galp will represent a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 80% when compared to the carbon footprint generated by the use of generators in the last edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa.

100% Renewable Diesel is a fuel produced from organic, non-mineral and residual raw materials (for example, waste from used cooking oils, animal fat, etc.). This renewable biofuel ends up being much less polluting than conventional alternatives and can be used both in generators and in the internal combustion engines of vehicles that run on diesel. With this initiative, Galp reinforces the objective of making sponsorship of Rock in Rio a privileged showcase to share its journey of transformation, its firm commitment to the energy transition and its support for communities. These will be very present premises in the stand that Galp will have on the festival grounds, and in which sustainability will be the basis of the various activations that will certainly remain in the memory of all visitors.

Remember that the 10th edition of Rock in Rio Lisboa is scheduled for the 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd of June 2024, in a new Rock City, in Parque Tejo Lisboa, where the public will be transported to a unique and memorable, full of surprises, animation, party, lots of music and quality entertainment.
