Flávio Gil and João Paulo Soares are the authors of the winning composition that this year will be sung and choreographed by all the Popular Marches, during the Lisbon Festivities.
From a total of 34 applications received in this edition of the competition, “O Tejo Afinal” was the song chosen by the jury, composed of conductor and artistic director Martim Sousa Tavares, singer and composer Sofia Hoffmann and composer, musician and music producer Renato Júnior.
The Tagus River – a suggested theme for this year – is the inspiration for the song “O Tejo Afinal”, which talks about the multiple colours of the river that reflect the people, customs and traditions of Lisbon.
After winning the competition in 2017, alongside Carlos Dionísio, the actor, author and director Flávio Gil integrates, in this edition, a new winning duo with the pianist and theatre composer João Paulo Soares, with the authorship, respectively, of the lyrics and music.
Every year, the Grand March competition recognizes the literary and musical originality of the authors of the winning composition with a prize worth €5,500 (five thousand and five hundred euros).
