Summer in the city is WOW < Guaíba's cultural block presents its August program

In August, WOW invites those staying in the city to experience summer to the fullest: with outdoor sunsets, Portuguese flavour festivals, fado nights, and live music, all in a single cultural block in Vila Nova de Gaia.

There’s a light energy in the air, a sound that fills the afternoons, and an open invitation to all who, in the middle of summer, decide to stay in the city. In August, WOW—Vila Nova de Gaia’s cultural block—transforms into an open-air celebration, where music, gastronomy, and culture converge in harmony with the sunset and the carefree rhythm of the season.

The big news is the extension of the Sunsets to the central square. Sunsets in the Square will set the tone for two festive evenings. On August 15th and 24th, between 3 pm and 10 pm, DJs Henri Josh, Artur, and Tiago Afonso, accompanied by MCs Cesariny and Henrique Mano, promise non-stop entertainment in an idyllic space with free admission, where you can dance with a glass in hand and gaze up at the sky over the invicta city.

The Sunsets at VP continue to brighten WOW’s evenings. On August 23rd, 30th, and 31st, there’s music, cocktails, and unparalleled views of the Douro and the city.

The month begins with truly Portuguese flavours, with the return of WOW’s gastronomic festivals. Following the success of the Francesinha Festival, this time the Tasquinhas Festival arrives on August 2nd and 3rd. It’s time for snacks, chilled wine, and the genuine joy of gatherings around the table. Two weeks later, on August 16th and 17th, the Smoked Meat Festival brings to life the intense aromas of tradition, with sausages, smoked meats, and other delicacies that warm the palate and the heart. All of this will be accompanied by traditional Portuguese music, in a genuine celebration of national flavours.

August is also the time for fado. On the 22nd and 29th, the evenings take on a more intimate tone with the Fado Show & Dinner, a show that includes a wine dinner, where Portuguese songs echo between glasses of wine and emotional silences. The concert and dinner cost €55 per person.

And because the music never stops, the Angel’s Share bar hosts live shows every Friday and Saturday with artists of diverse sounds. The month kicks off with a bang with international names: on the 1st, Cape Verdean Hilar brings morna and coladeira to the cultural quarter, and on the 2nd, Angolan Klaudio Hoshai treats attendees to semba and kizomba. On the following weekends, each night is a discovery, and there’s plenty to celebrate with the sounds of, for example, Rui David (Portuguese music) or Azula Queen (blues). Admission is free.

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the access conditions, confirmation of the date and time, ticket sales location, price, and availability.
