“Oasis” at Oeiras Parque combines creativity, comfort and sustainability

  • Winning project awarded 10,000€
  • Participants created sustainable furniture projects

Designer Nuno de Paula was the big winner of the “DESIGN A PRÉMIO” competition, promoted by Oeiras Parque, with the project “Oasis”, a proposal that combines contemporary design, sustainability and functionality.

This competition, which received dozens of entries, challenged creatives to develop a new line of furniture for the shopping centre’s rest areas. With this initiative, Shopping da Linha reinforces its commitment to innovation, support for national talent and the promotion of sustainability, valuing the conscious use of resources and materials.

Inspired by the concept of an oasis, the winning project, awarded 10 thousand euros, provides a space for relaxation that combines comfort and a touch of nature in an urban environment. With curved and organic shapes, the “Oasis” line evokes the movement of the dunes, allowing multiple configurations and promoting well-being.

According to Nuno de Paula, author of the winning project, this creation “represents the balance between contemporary design, functionality and ecological commitment, enriching the internal environment of commercial spaces with a touch of nature, promoting well-being and sustainability”.

To meet the challenge of being a sustainable project, the line is built using bamboo modules, a renewable and fast-growing raw material, ensuring reduced environmental impact. The durability of the chosen materials ensures a long useful life, promoting the circular economy and reducing the need for frequent replacements.

The jury, made up of leading names in national design – Guta Moura Guedes, Nini Andrade Silva and Paulo Parra – also included representatives from Mundicenter and SOTA – State of the Art, highlighting the demand and prestige associated with the competition.

Fernando Oliveira, director of the Mundicenter Group, says that “the numerous entries we had in this competition, as well as the quality of the proposals submitted, are a reflection of national talent and creativity”. The administrator also highlights that “the ‘Oasis’ line represents exactly the type of innovation and environmental commitment that we want to see reflected in Oeiras Parque, creating a more complete, comfortable and sustainable experience for our visitors”.

This competition had five finalists and, given the quality of the proposals, the jury decided to award two honourable mentions to the TANGRAM and STONE GARDEN projects. These stood out for their uniqueness and great interest in defining contemporary public and collective space.
