The sixth edition of the Festival Eight Hands, Monuments with Music Inside began at the end of June and continues in July, August, and September, with concerts in Penedono, Sabrosa, Vila Flor, Macedo de Cavaleiros, among other locations in the region of Tras- os-Montes and Alto Douro.
It is an initiative that exclusively involves national and international quartets, and the concerts are performed exclusively in classified monuments or of municipal interest. With a unique character and an undeniable difference in its originality, it is a music festival that, year after year, leaves good memories.
On the 16th of July in Penedono, the Dalma quartet will perform at Igreja Matriz de Antas, at 6 pm. It is a project inspired by the different sounds of the violin and seeks, through its elements, a musical journey through different musical styles and eras.
On the 30th of August, at 9.30 pm, it’s Sabrosa’s turn to host the Celtic folk quartet, Tor. Members of the Gomes Mouro de Ourense Traditional Music Class, of the traditional quintet “Os Lubicáns”, and of “Sólidos Galicianos”, regular collaborators in Pancho Alvarez’s musical projects.
On the 9th of September, the Oito Mãos Festival continues in Vila Flor, with the Lulavai concert at 9 pm. It is a female quartet of Celtic harps that perform in Pelourinho.
On the 16th of September, at 9 pm, it’s the turn of Macedo de Cavaleiros and the accordion quartet Bayan Quartet. Traveling from the Baroque to the Contemporary, passing through Traditional Portuguese Music, this formation interprets original works by composers such as Gerhard Maasz, Vitorino Matono, or Astor Piazzolla, among others.
The Festival Oito Mãos and its unusual cultural strength are based on the ability to highlight the richness of the heritage and offer rare musical moments. The strength is built and renewed in each edition with the influx of a wide audience and usually family.
The five editions already held are marked by the promotion and cultural dynamization of 47 different monuments in 22 different municipalities.
