On Monday, at 3 pm, in the Carochas Hall, begins the Sense of the Masters. This year’s Master is the writer Rui Cardoso and the training he will teach is entitled Read a lot, see shows, live more. At 18h, the Colloquium begins on the Esplanade with Olga Roriz and João Brites, creators of 1001 Nights – Sister Palestine.
While dining on the Esplanade, at 8:30 pm, you can listen to Zeca Afonso’s Tribute. At 10 pm, on the Big Stage, it is the turn of Et maintenant Miss Knife est en Couple to enter the scene.
Miss Knife is the ‘alter ego’ drag queen model that follows Olivier Py’s stage career, and life goes to 30 years. It is a show that travels freely between the worlds of cabaret, music hall and recital. On stage, Olivier Py – in dress, tights and high heels, wearing feathers, costume jewellery and the wig – sings original compositions, or arrangements of themes from the French chanson, a genre he confesses to love forever. This is his love for music and extravagance in its most exacerbated expression! After versions with instrumental ensemble, jazz band, or Sinfónica orchestra, which ran the world, Olivier Py now embarks on the most intimate format possible: voice and piano. And there’s a new collaborator: Antoni Sykopoulos (Maestro S, stage name), the arranger and pianist who shares his baritone voice with Miss Knife’s fake soprano. Precisely for this reason: Et maintenant, Miss Knife est en Couple.
Olivier Py (n. 1965) is one of the great personalities of contemporary French theatre, either as an author/director or as a cultural manager – who has worked at the Centre Dramatique d’Orléans, the Théâtre de l’Odéon, the Avignon Festival (2013-22) and, since 2023, by the Théâtre du Châtelet. He made his stage debut at the age of 20 and as a director at 23, when he created his own company. Since the new century, it has been dedicated to the staging of opera, having already about 40 productions in its portfolio. Catholic and gay, religion and homosexuality are recurring themes in his scenic and literary creations.
