Olhão fish farming offers fish production to the most needy

Since March 23, EPPO has donated 2,180 kilograms of fish to 15 institutions.

In this solidarity action, EPPO offered 80 kg of croakers to the Casa do Povo in Moncarapacho / Olhão, 90 kg to the Casa dos Rapazes de Faro, 30 kg to the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Social Welfare Center, in Olhão, 40 kg to Associação Verdades Escondidas, also from Olhão, 40 kg to the Social Center Nossa Senhora do Carmo, in Fuseta / Olhão, and 80 kg to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Moncarapacho.

According to the website of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), “the IPMA / DivAV has a Fish Farming Pilot Station in Olhão, a unique infrastructure in the country, designed to carry out research, development and experimental demonstration on a pilot scale, which promotes the transfer of technology to the productive sector, as an important pillar in scientific and technical training, both at professional and university levels “.

This unit occupies an area of ​​about seven hectares of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in Marim, is composed of a maternity area (with breeding stock of nine species of marine fish adapted for captivity), a pre-fattening area and the fattening area in earth tanks.
