Applications are now open for the XVI edition of the Biotechnology Olympics, an initiative of the Superior School of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Porto and the Portuguese Society of Biotechnology, which aims to promote scientific culture among secondary school students across the country.
Paula Teixeira, researcher and professor at the School of Biotechnology at the Catholic University, explains that “every year we are surprised by the originality of the works presented and by the strong involvement of professors and students”. Launched in 2005, this initiative aims to promote “scientific and technological culture among young people in secondary education, knowledge of biotechnology in its multiple aspects and interest in activities on a national scale”, she adds.
Secondary school students who want to test their knowledge in this area can apply until January 21st using the form available here. Two qualifiers are planned, one local and one nationwide, in addition to the grand final on May 20, 2022.
Remember that this initiative started 16 years ago and has already involved thousands of students and teachers across the country. As in previous years, dozens of schools and teachers and hundreds of young participants are expected to participate.
