Three-time GRAMMY®-winning artist Olivia Rodrigo made a spectacular return with her new single “vampire”, which became her biggest debut ever on multiple platforms including Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and radio.
Released on Geffen Records, the emotionally raw song debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 after racking up 35.5 million streams in the week of June 30-July 6, according to Luminate. This is his third single to debut at #1 on the top, after “drivers license” and “good 4 u”. The song claims the top spot on the Billboard Song Consumption chart. Globally, “vampire” has amassed over 100 million combined streams and reached #1 in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland.
Pitchfork described “vampire” as the week’s “Best New Song“. The New York Times praised the “gritty catharsis” of the song, which is the lead single from the 20-year-old artist’s highly anticipated sophomore album, “GUTS,” due out September 8.
Setting the record for the biggest debut of a solo song in 2023 on Spotify, “vampire” marks Rodrigo’s biggest debut on this platform. With over 26.3 million audiences in its first week, the single also gave the 20-year-old artist her #1 radio debut.
Alongside the release of the single and #vampireOR2 on Shorts, the official video amassed over 12.9 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube – Rodrigo’s biggest debut yet – and reached #1 on the US Trending Music chart. Rodrigo, who appears on the cover of the August issue of Vogue, reveals his sophistication as a vocalist and lyricist in “vampire”, telling a story of a toxic romance that depletes one’s life force. The song is a marked departure from the dreamy minimalism of past hits, such as her debut single “Drivers License” (5 Platinum). Rodrigo co-wrote “vampire” with Daniel Nigro, who also produced the song. Nigro was his main creative partner on his highly successful debut album, “SOUR”, which is the fastest album in history to have all songs certified Platinum in the US. The album is among the top 10 most listened-to albums of all time on Spotify.
Olivia Rodrigo received seven GRAMMY® nominations – including nominations in each of the four main categories – and took home Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 64th GRAMMY® Awards.
