Olivia Rodrigo reveals new single “Bad Idea Right?”

Olivia Rodrigo, multi-platinum artist and three-time GRAMMY® winner, releases her exciting new single “bad idea right?” and the accompanying video.

The continuation of “vampire” – which in June debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #5 on the Spotify Top in Portugal, making it its biggest debut of all time on several platforms – “bad idea right ?” is the second single from Olivia Rodrigo’s second album, “GUTS”, which will be released on September 8th.

In a dramatic shift from the piano intensity of “vampire” — named “Best New Track” by Pitchfork and currently with over 1.5M streams nationwide — “bad idea right?” arrives as a frantic and wildly entertaining take on getting back together with an ex against all better judgment. As the song builds, the 20-year-old artist narrates her feverish inner monologue with a self-aware sense of humor and a series of honest confessions, once again showcasing the well-crafted songwriting that was first revealed on her album. debut, “SOUR”. Produced and co-written with her regular collaborator Daniel Nigro, “bad idea right?” sets this narrative against a dizzying backdrop of chaotic guitar riffs, pounding drums and dizzying vocals – fully echoing the playful spirit of the songwriting process.

“’bad idea right?’ started with us making a joke about me going out with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were on the right track,” says Rodrigo. “We were playing around with the strangest ideas – in one of the choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me screaming louder and louder.”

A perfect reflection of the song’s crazy energy, the video for “bad idea right?” is Rodrigo’s latest collaboration with Petra Collins – the famous artist/director/photographer who was nominated for a GRAMMY® for her work on Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” video, and who also directed the videos for “brutal ” and “vampire” (the latter became Olivia Rodrigo’s biggest YouTube debut to date, amassing over 12.9 million views in the first 24 hours and reaching No. With an aesthetic partially inspired by the horror comedy of the B series movies of the early 1990s, the video for “bad idea right?” follows Olivia Rodrigo on a trip to an ex’s house, mixing surreal, harrowing and fantastically absurd.
