OMIRI live for new album pre-presentation

OMIRI, a solo project of multi-instrumentalist musician Vasco Ribeiro Casais, one of the most original reinventions of Portuguese music, plays this week at B.Leza in Lisbon and Maus Hábitos in Porto, on 5 and 6 December respectively.

Anticipating a 2025 filled with new music, OMIRI promises to open some of the curtains to its new music this week, in two pre-presentation concerts of a new album that will arrive on platforms and stores next year.

The artist takes the stage at B.Leza (Lisbon) already this Thursday from 21:00, and at Maus Hábitos (Porto) from 21:30. The latest tickets for both dates are still available.

OMIRI has released a new single, the first of the next album, “Ó Ti o Tirititi”:

“Ó Ti ó Tirititi” is the first single to be presented from a new OMIRI album, to be released in early 2025. “Ó Ti ó Tirititi” is an adaptation of a traditional theme from Águeda with the already unmistakable sound of OMIRI in which the electronics are made through field collections of our songs and traditional crafts. This theme features Beatriz Melo and Chula d’Águeda singing, with Maria Albertina Pereira working the land and Jaime Martins in the triangle – collections made by Vasco Ribeiro Casais in the municipality of Águeda, to which is added the viola Braguesa and the Cavaquinho played by the musician.

“Ó Ti ó Tirititi” was part of the special show line-up dedicated to Águeda, where it was received with great enthusiasm by the public. OMIRI’s ability to reinterpret this classic song results in an original, modern and urban sound that preserves the essence and identity of its roots and restores the vibrant spirit of the region.

This single is more than a song; it’s a celebration of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Águeda and Portugal. Through creative arrangements and the unique interpretation of OMIRI, “Ó Ti ó Tirititi” becomes an original proposal, hearty and accessible, attracting listeners of all ages and contexts.

OMIRI continues to show that traditional music can be reinvented while remaining relevant in the contemporary context. This single promises to enchant and make dance, reflecting the liveliness of Portuguese culture and OMIRI’s ability to connect the past with the present in a unique way.

About OMIRI

OMIRI is one of the most original projects to reinvent Portuguese music.

To reinvent tradition, nothing better than bringing to the show the real players of our culture; musicians and soundscapes from all over the country playing and singing as if they were part of the same universe. Not in flesh and blood but in sound and image, with video collections manipulated to serve as the basis for the composition and musical improvisation of Vasco Ribeiro Casais.

OMIRI is, above all, remixing, the culture of the 21st century, by mixing in a single show musical practices already forgotten, making them permeable and accessible to the culture of our days, synchronizing forms and songs of our rural tradition with the language of urban culture.

In recent years OMIRI has established itself as an international project, taking all the Portugality to the four corners of the world and performing at major national and international festivals such as Womex, Reepperbahn, Eurosonic, Rudolstadt, Kaustinen, Viljandi, Dranouter, Live at Heart, Exib Musica, Iminente, WestWay Lab, Med, Artes à Rua and many others.

His album “Baile Electrónico” was in the top 3 on the World Music Charts Europe (September 2017). In 2020 he was awarded the Inatel Award at the Iberian Festival Awards. In parallel to the stage concert, OMIRI also develops special projects with the involvement of local communities and directed to specific regions such as the unique shows in Évora, Pombal, Alcanena, Tomar and Setúbal, from which resulted the books/CDs: “Alentejo vol.I: Évora”, “Beira-Litoral e Ribatejo vol.I: Pombal, Alcanena and Tomar, “Estremadura vol.I: Setúbal” and “Ribatejo e Estremadura vol.II: Abrantes e Alcobaça” undoubtedly masterpieces that represent the entire culture of a region.
