Online content of Romaria d’Agonia viewed by 550,000 people in 2021

The online contents of Romaria d’Agonia were seen this year by around 550,000 people and the Festivals Committee is already working on the 2022 edition, which will take place in five days, from August 17th to 21st, to “be worth three” and compensate for the absence of the main moments in the last two years.

“There were more than 100,000 people who watched the shows at the Cultural Center through social networks, they are impressive numbers, especially because we are aware that people miss our party”, says António Cruz, president of the Festas Committee.

This year, the party took place in Viana do Castelo from August 19th to 22nd, but again, as in 2020, due to the pandemic, without the main and emblematic pictures of the Pilgrimage, only with the performance of the Costume Festival and musical concerts with the public and broadcast live, once again with the brand “We are all Romaria”.

This year, Romaria d’Agonia had live concerts at the Cultural Center, with limited capacity and subject to the rules for preventing the pandemic. This was the case of the shows by Sons do Minho and Augusto Canário e Amigos, each with around 850 live spectators and more than 25,000 watching online. In total, the five shows held at the Cultural Center over the four days of the festival brought together 3,600 people to watch it live and more than 103,000 on the Internet.

Other moments of the party held with limitations were also broadcast live through social networks and with multimedia content, such as the making of a single salt carpet, greetings from the Festivities Committee, and butlers to the authorities or the Eucharist of the Pilgrimage.

According to data provided by the social network Facebook, on August 19, the first day of the party, 97,310 users accessed the Pilgrimage’s contents, including daily premieres, a number that rose to 189,500 the following day. On Saturday, 129,010 users accessed these contents and on Sunday, the party closed, more than 91,300.
