“Opera Spectacular Tribute to Queen” a fantastic show

Coliseu dos Recreios

The Coliseu sold out with a bold and unprecedented Queen Tribute, which you can see this weekend in Porto.

A lyrical and innovative approach, full of nuances of the Opera universe that “blended” with Queen’s music. The audience had the opportunity to listen to the Queen of the Night, Madame Butterfly, Casta Diva, a Nessun Dorma, or Carmen on various themes such as: “It’s a kind of magic” or “Another one bites the dust“.

And the magic happened in every moment. Starting with an unexpected opening “live” from the Convento de Mafra, and with the Carrilhão de Mafra, played by Chief Abel Chaves of the PSP Symphonic Band (supported and recorded by Mafra TV), accompanying the singers, in an interaction with the audience that immediately manifested with great applause. A very well achieved and unprecedented moment in these tributes.

The show managed to address a very wide Queen repertoire that featured light and very strong moments. The show features five opera singers and a pop/rock singer.

Sopranos, Yolanda Soares (also mentor and artistic director) and Patrycja Gabrel, Mezzo-Soprano Inês Madeira, Tenor Bruno Almeida, Baritone Diogo Oliveira, and pop singer Bruno Correia, were accompanied by the PSP Symphonic Band which was directed by Maestro Sub-Commissioner Pedro Ferreira, the Rock Band “Under Pressure” (Band formed on purpose for this project) under the direction of Chief João Português (also drummer of the PSP Symphonic Band) and the Children’s Choir “Vozes do Atlântico” directed by Professor /conductor Angela Morais.

The highlight for the excellence of the six main voices already mentioned, and the electric guitar touch of guitarist Mokuna Lagarto. However, all the sound achieved by the Rock Band “Under pressure” and the “PSP Symphonic Band” lived up to the grandeur and strength of the iconic band Queen.

The whole show offered sublime and totally unexpected moments in several themes such as: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (by the children’s choir in an almost “dance” with the lyrical singers), “Innuendo” (moving and with a touching message referring to the problem of the war in Ukraine), “I want to break free” sung by female lyrical voices, and much more could be seen and heard in nearly two hours of the concert.

The show was produced by By the Music Productions.

On the 29th of May at 18:00, you can’t miss “Opera Spectacular Tribute to Queen” at the Coliseu do Porto Ageas in the city of Porto
