Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark celebrates 40 years and come to Portugal
The British group Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark (OMD) begins in October, in Portugal, a European tour that marks the 40 years of recordings, when in 1979 they released the theme ‘Electricity’, was announced today.
The tour starts on October 15 at the Aula Magna in Lisbon, followed by a concert on the 16th at the Casa da Música in Oporto.
According to the concerts agenda announced today, the OMD will have more than 40 concerts on European stages until February 2020, including Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, France or Denmark.
The group called it ‘Souvenir Tour’, named after one of the best-known songs, but the truth is that the tour marks the 40th anniversary of ‘Electricity’, the first single released in 1979 by Factory Records.
“We’re going to play all our successes, including some of the oldest material rarely played,” the group said on the official website.
The electronic band and synth-pop were born in England in the late 1970s, the OMD was having several lives, with a turnaround at the turn of the century.
Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys remain. Among the most known OMD themes are ‘Electricity’, ‘Enola Gay’, ‘Souvenir’ and ‘Red Frame / White Light’.
